Speeder

A speeder is a participant who complete the survey or a section of the survey in less than a minimum threshold defined by you.

Jibunu uses two different methods to detect speeders:  Targeted Speeder Question or a Calculation Speeder Check.  To have either one included in the survey, simply add a programming note to the questionnaire to include the option you prefer (e.g. Mark respondent as a speeder if Q1 – Q4 is completed in less than 2 minutes).  You may also include your own custom logic and/or warning message in the questionnaire.

If you would like a speeder check in place for your study please indicate in the final document how you would like it programmed.  We will also need to know how you would like speeders treated (e.g. terminated, or allowed to complete, but flagged in the data).

Targeted Speeder Question

A trap question can be included within a question or as a stand alone question to identify speeders.  This question would direct the respondent to select a specific answer.  For example, in the middle of a grid question, a question can be included to say “Please select “3” for this row”.   An example of a stand alone question would be: Enter the number that appears in the box.

Options include:

  • Question and text to be used.
    • Standard question
    • Include a question on an existing grid question.  Simply specify the question to be used in the questionnaire.
  • Display a warning message when speeding is detected.
    • Standard warning message:
      • Please consider your responses carefully.  If this is what you intended, please click continue to proceed.
    • Allow respondent to update answers and click continue or just click continue.
    • Create a custom warning message.
  • Action logic
    • Flag the respondent as a speeder in the data with no other action taken.
    • Terminate the respondent immediately.
    • Additional custom terminate criteria can be added such as using a combination of factors to terminate a respondent.  Example: Terminate if flagged as a speeder twice.

Calculation Speeder Check

A simple calculation can be used to mark a respondent as a speeder.  This can be based on how quickly a respondent answers a group of questions or how quickly a respondent completes the entire survey.

Options include:

  • Question based calculation
    • The questions to be included in the calculation.
    • Overall time allowance for the group of questions.
  • Overall calculation
    • Overall time allowance for the entire survey.
  • Action logic
    • Flag the respondent as a speeder in the data with no other action taken.
    • Terminate the respondent immediately.
